U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is not a university in the usual sense, but an organisation for older people who are no longer working full time and wish to continue learning and following new interests. It offers its members a chance to develop new skills and interests, share their own knowledge and make new friends.

U3A is about enjoying ourselves and meeting new people rather than gaining qualifications

If you live in Rainworth, Blidworth, Bilsthorpe, Ravenshead, Sherwood, Farnsfield, or the South of Mansfield and would like to meet new people and find out about new interests, simply come along to our next main meeting at Rainworth Village Hall.

Our monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Village Hall, Kirklington Road, Rainworth from 10am until 12noon .

You are welcome to come to our meetings as a visitor for a maximum of two months for a charge of £1 per visit where you will have the chance to meet our members, have a cup of tea and find out about our Interest Groups and our latest events and activities. You will also be entertained by our monthly speaker.

If you would like to become a member of Rainworth & District U3A our Membership Secretary will ask you to complete a membership application form. Our annual subscription is £20.00 for one year’s membership from 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2015.

U3As are charitable, non-profit making, organisations whose national body is The Third Age Trust. Subscriptions include the cost of insurance cover for activities undertaken by our members, room hire for main meetings, speakers fees, some functions and five issues each year of the U3A magazine ‘Third Age Matters’, which is published by the Third Age Trust and posted directly to members’ homes.

Members are provided with a membership card, which allows them to attend meetings and Interest Groups at Rainworth U3A and also to be associate members of other local U3A`s and to join in with their interest groups, if there are vacancies.

Most local U3As have their own websites where details of their meetings, Interest Groups and social and other activities can be found. The National U3A website is www.u3a.org.uk.

Rainworth and District U3A is one of the latest U3As to be started out of the 12 already in the Nottingham area. There are more than 900 U3As Nationally.

Whether you are interested in short walks, gardening, history, crafts, computer skills or reading, etc, there are others who will share your interests.  You will not find strangers among us; only friends you have not yet met!
